CATALYST
After years behind the chair, it's easy to feel that you've reached the ceiling of your craft. Technical proficiency alone no longer satisfies, and traditional education often recycles familiar concepts under new names.
CATALYST exists for the veteran stylist seeking something fundamentally different.
This four-day immersive experience goes beyond incremental technical improvements to transform how you relate to hair artistry at its core. I’ve designed this intimate workshop specifically for experienced stylists who find themselves asking: "What's next in my evolution as an artist?"
Breaking Down Walls
Remember when you first fell in love with hair? Before the technical manuals and salon expectations narrowed your focus? I designed CATALYST to reconnect you with that original spark.
Together, we'll dissolve the artificial boundaries between "expert" and "student." I may guide our explorations, but the knowledge flows in every direction. Your questions, observations, and creative impulses will shape our journey as much as mine.
Each morning begins with us centering ourselves, becoming fully present for the day's exploration. I'll offer demonstrations not as blueprints to copy, but as starting points for your own artistic interpretation. We celebrate when you diverge from what I show you. That's where your authentic expression emerges.
A Personal Invitation from Your Guide
CATALYST was born from a deep belief in artistic potential. This four-day immersive experience creates a space where we can explore together as equals, discovering new dimensions of hair artistry through collaborative exchange. Rather than following the traditional teacher-student model, CATALYST fosters an environment where knowledge flows freely and every voice contributes to our collective growth.
Limited to just four stylists, this intimate workshop allows for genuine connection and personalized attention, ensuring that your unique perspective is valued and integrated into our shared experience.
Multidisciplinary Art as Catalyst
What sets this experience apart is our journey beyond hair into other artistic domains. Throughout our four days together, we'll immerse ourselves in:
Abstract Painting: Using color, form, and texture to break free from literal representation, just as innovative hair design transcends formulaic approaches.
Collage: Exploring how disparate elements come together to create unexpected harmony, revealing new possibilities for how we approach shape and structure in hair.
Movement: Developing awareness of your body as an instrument in space, understanding how your positioning and movement directly affect precision, accuracy, and the final results of each cut. This somatic awareness also builds sustainable practices that protect your physical wellbeing throughout your career.
Music: Listening deeply to rhythm, tone, and improvisation, training ourselves to respond with greater sensitivity to the unique "composition" each client presents.
Photography: Capturing not just the final result, but the process itself, learning to see your work through new lenses and perspectives.
These artistic explorations aren't separate from our hair work. They're integral to it. As you move between these different creative languages, you'll discover new ways of seeing and thinking that transform your approach to hair artistry at a fundamental level.
The Body as Instrument
One of our most transformative explorations focuses on understanding your body as a precise instrument. We'll explore how your stance, positioning, and movement patterns directly influence the outcome of each cut.
Together, we'll discover how subtle adjustments in how you hold your scissors, position your body relative to your client, and move through the cutting process can dramatically improve both your results and your physical wellbeing. Many stylists find that these movement awareness practices not only enhance their precision but also reduce the physical strain that often leads to burnout in our profession.
You'll develop a deeper understanding of the biomechanics of cutting hair, creating more accurate, intentional results while simultaneously protecting your body for a sustainable career behind the chair.
Documentation & Reflection
I'll encourage you to capture your process throughout our time together through images, writing, and video. This isn't just about creating content for social media (though you're welcome to share). It's about developing a practice of reflection that continues long after our four days together.
Many past participants tell me this documentation practice becomes one of their most valuable tools for ongoing growth, helping them communicate their artistic approach to clients and track their own creative evolution.
Our Creative Community
The relationships formed during CATALYST often become as valuable as the technical explorations. With just four of you sharing this intimate experience, meaningful connections naturally develop.
I stay connected with our CATALYST community, and I'm constantly inspired by how participants continue to support and challenge each other long after our workshop ends. This isn't about building my following. It's about creating a network of like-minded artists who value deep exploration over quick trends.
Reconnecting with Purpose
In the daily demands of salon life, it's easy to lose sight of why you chose this path. The most profound moments at CATALYST often come when I see that spark reignite in your eyes, when you remember that you are an artist who happens to work with hair, not merely a technician fulfilling requests.
This remembering ripples outward. Participants often share that their clients immediately notice a shift in their energy and approach, responding with deeper appreciation and trust. This renewal of purpose is the true heart of CATALYST.
Join Our Next Exploration
I limit CATALYST to four participants per session not to create artificial scarcity, but because this work requires intimacy and personal attention. I want to know you, your strengths, your questions, and your unique artistic voice.
If this approach to hair artistry resonates with you, if you're seeking not just new techniques but a deeper connection to your creative purpose, I'd be honored to guide you through this exploration.
