Glow
Where Artistry and Technique Converge
In the ever-evolving world of hair artistry, continuing education remains the cornerstone of success for stylists seeking to refine their craft. GLOW Open Studio Sessions offer an innovative approach to professional development, creating a unique space where creativity and technique converge in an organic, community-driven environment with personal facilitation.
The GLOW Experience
These thoughtfully designed GLOW sessions bridge the gap between intensive educational experiences. Each three-hour gathering provides a supportive space to practice cutting techniques with guidance while encouraging peer-to-peer learning. Unlike traditional classes that follow rigid curricula, GLOW embraces a responsive model where you actively shape the focus of each session, honoring the collective expertise in the room.
The beauty of GLOW lies in its collaborative spirit. With up to eight participants per session, stylists from diverse backgrounds and experience levels come together, creating a rich tapestry of perspectives and approaches. This intentional diversity nurtures an environment where innovation thrives, as techniques from different cutting styles blend and evolve through shared exploration and mutual inspiration.
Each GLOW session unfolds as a unique creative experience shaped by both demonstrations and the participants present. This ever-changing landscape ensures that even regular attendees continuously discover fresh perspectives and techniques, keeping creative practice vibrant and evolving.
Dual-Medium Learning: Hair + Art
Participants are invited to bring mannequins of their choosing, from straight to tight curly, to work alongside the demonstrations. This hands-on component allows for immediate application and experimentation with the techniques being shared, transforming abstract concepts into tangible skills.
The diversity of mannequin textures creates opportunities to adapt techniques across diverse hair, expanding your versatility and confidence. As you work, the collaborative environment encourages questions, adjustments, and discoveries that deepen your understanding and expand your creative repertoire
What sets GLOW apart is its integration of actual art-making into the learning process. During each session, you'll engage with the central concept through multiple forms of expression:
First, through cutting demonstrations that illuminate how shape concepts translate into hair design. Then, through hands-on practice with mannequins where you'll apply these techniques across different hair textures and types.
Finally, you'll explore the same concepts through actual art creation—sometimes collage, sometimes painting, sometimes mixed media—allowing you to process and internalize shape concepts through a different creative lens. This multi-dimensional approach deepens your understanding of fundamental design principles that transcend any single medium.
The connections you discover between your artwork and your hair design often reveal new approaches and insights that wouldn't emerge through traditional training methods. This cross-pollination between artistic mediums creates a revolutionary learning environment that expands both your technical skill and creative vision
Designed for the Visionary Stylist
The low-commitment, low-investment structure delivers major takeaway power for busy professionals. This thoughtful design allows you to engage meaningfully with continuing education without overwhelming your schedule or budget. The high value-to-time ratio makes GLOW an efficient pathway to creative growth and technical advancement.
GLOW sessions focus on exploring fundamental design concepts through specific technical applications. Recent themes have included circular motion in round forms, the tension between geometric and organic shapes, radial expansion from central points, and the power of negative space in design. Each concept is explored through both hair cutting techniques and artistic creation, creating powerful connections between theory and practice.
Beyond technical skill-building, GLOW nurtures the artistic sensibility essential to exceptional hair design. The studio atmosphere encourages you to view your craft through a creative lens, considering how shape, texture, and movement contribute to a cohesive artistic vision. This integration of technical precision with artistic expression empowers you to develop signature approaches that set your work apart.
Upcoming Glow Open Studio Session
Circular Motion: Exploring Round Forms in Hair and Art
Dive into the concept of circularity in hair design. Experiment with cutting techniques that create perfect roundness in different contexts: from rounded graduation to circular layers. During the art-making portion, create collages or paintings exploring circular forms in nature and architecture, drawing connections between these visual inspirations and hair shapes. Discuss how circular forms create different feelings and movements in both hair and art.

Concave and Convex Forms: The Interplay of Curves
Explore the dynamic relationship between inward and outward curves in creating three-dimensional form. Master cutting techniques that create concave and convex shapes within a haircut—from subtle interior contouring to dramatic exterior curves. In the art portion, create sculptures or relief works that explore the interplay between these opposing curved forms. Connect this tactile understanding to hair design approaches that use curved elements to create volume, movement, or frame the face.

Proportion and Scale: Relational Harmony
Examine how the relationship between different elements creates harmony or tension in design. Learn techniques for creating intentional proportion relationships within haircuts—from the golden ratio to unexpected scale contrasts. The art-making portion will involve creating compositions that explore different proportional relationships, using collage or mixed media to adjust and experiment with scale. Apply these principles to hair design strategies that use proportion to create balance or deliberate focal points.
